Freight payers select Lineas for rail consolidation in the Waasland Port area

Open consolidation model also invites other companies to join. Railport takes on the role of neutral coordinator.

The freight payersworking together within Railport to develop rail freight transport in the Waasland Port area have unanimously selected Lineas as their preferred rail operator for the consolidation project. By pooling volumes, they aim to develop a more efficient, reliable and competitive rail product and create a stronger foundation for further growth.

The consolidation model is explicitly open to other companies. They are also invited to join with their freight flows and contribute to the development of the joint rail solution.

The cooperation covers the transport of individual wagons, wagon groups and block trains in the Waasland Port area, with the exception of deep-sea terminals. It builds on the consolidation model already in place on the right bank.

Lineas was selected following a transparent, objective and independent tender process supervised by Railport. Several rail operators were assessed according to the same commercial and operational criteria. The final decision was made by the participating freight payers.

Pooling volumes

By combining the rail volumes of different companies, locomotives, staff, shunting capacity and infrastructure can be deployed more efficiently. This should result in more competitive transport, greater reliability and predictability, and a more accessible rail product, including for companies with smaller or fragmented volumes.

At the same time, consolidation creates a stronger basis for connections with European industrial and logistics regions. In this way, the model can both strengthen existing rail flows and make the modal shift to rail more attractive for additional freight flows.

Railport as neutral coordinator

With the selection of Lineas, the concrete implementation of the cooperation can now begin. Railport will support the implementation together with Lineas and the participating freight payers and, in its neutral position, will safeguard the quality, reliability, transparency and accessibility of the model.

Nils van Vliet, CEO of Railport: “

The freight payers are sending a clear signal: we want to work together to build a stronger rail product in the Port of Antwerp. We invite other companies to join. Every additional freight flow makes the model stronger, more efficient and more attractive for everyone.

”

Invitation to companies

Companies looking to strengthen their existing rail transport or shift additional volumes to rail can contact Railport. Together, the possibilities for joining the model will be explored, taking into account their freight flows, destinations and operational requirements.

The ambition is clear: to further develop rail as a fully-fledged mode of transport to and from the port, offering high-quality, economically attractive and transparent services.
