Port of Antwerp-Bruges welcomes Windrose for European assembly and R&D of electric trucks

Port of Antwerp-Bruges welcomes Windrose as a new player in sustainable mobility. The Chinese manufacturer of electric trucks is establishing its first European flagship site, “Windrose Park Antwerp,” along the Noorderlaan in Antwerp. At this location, Windrose will assemble vehicles for the European market, alongside research & development and after-sales activities.

Selection following market consultation

The concession follows a market consultation for two plots totalling 9.5 hectares on the Romeynsweel site along the Noorderlaan in Antwerp, with a focus on logistics and assembly activities. Despite the challenging economic climate, interest was high. Windrose’s project stood out thanks to its economic, logistical and strategic added value.

Assembly for Europe

Windrose will ship components to Antwerp, where the electric trucks will be assembled. The finished vehicles, which meet all required European certifications, will then be exported to other European markets and potentially North America as well. This will generate local logistics and assembly activities and additional container traffic from the Far East.

Local anchoring

Windrose Park Antwerp will be developed through a joint venture with Antwerp-based real estate partner Van Wellen Group and has the potential to create around 200 full-time jobs in the longer term. The project will also act as a catalyst for a broader ecosystem, through collaborations with logistics players and regional energy and battery specialists.

International hub for sustainable industry

With this project—strongly focused on renewable energy, inland shipping connections to destinations including Valenciennes, and circular use of materials—Port of Antwerp-Bruges reinforces its role as an international hub for sustainable industry and trade.
